Your First Visit

Know what to expect.

A little preparation goes a long way. Here's what your first appointment at Haven looks like, from arriving at the clinic to taking your first steps towards feeling better.

  1. More time to understand your problem.

Your first visit allows extra time to explore your symptoms, health history, previous treatments and goals. A thorough clinical assessment helps us understand what's contributing to your problem and choose the right treatment approach.

  2. Your own private treatment room.

Enjoy dedicated one-on-one care in a private, enclosed treatment room. You'll have the time, privacy and personal attention to discuss your concerns comfortably.

  3. Assessment, treatment and reassessment.

Where appropriate, we'll begin treatment during your first visit. This may include hands-on therapy, dry needling, laser or shockwave treatment. We'll assess your response to help guide what comes next.

  4. A clear direction for what comes next.

We'll explain our findings, discuss treatment priorities and provide practical advice or exercises where appropriate. You'll leave with a clearer understanding of your problem and the next steps.

Before you arrive

A few helpful details to make your first visit easier.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely and provides access to the area being assessed or treated.

What should I bring?

Please bring any relevant scans, reports or referral letters if you have them, along with information about previous treatment you've had for the problem. You don't need to have everything, just bring what's available.

If you have private health insurance with extras cover for physiotherapy, please bring your health fund card or have your fund's app available on your phone. We have HICAPS facilities to process eligible claims on the spot, so you can pay any remaining gap by EFTPOS.

Can someone come with me?

You're welcome to bring a family member, friend or support person to your appointment. They can help you explain your concerns, ask questions or remember what's discussed. Sometimes having another set of ears makes all the difference.

How long is my first visit?

Your first appointment is scheduled for 45 minutes, allowing additional time for assessment, discussion and treatment where appropriate.

Is there parking?

Yes. On-site parking is available, making it easy to arrive and access the clinic.

Is the clinic wheelchair accessible?

Haven has been thoughtfully designed for easier access, with ramp entry, wide doorways and an accessible toilet equipped with grab rails and space for wheelchair users. We want every patient to feel comfortable and welcome.

Do I need a referral?

You don't need a GP referral for a standard private physiotherapy appointment. Some funded or compensable appointments have different requirements.

How do I book?

Choose a suitable time through our online booking system. Appointment options, availability and fees are displayed before you confirm.
